Thank you for using TLDR Scholar. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and why it's necessary for the extension to function.

1. Information We Collect

To provide our services, we handle two types of data:

• Website Content: When you initiate a summary or ask a question, the text content of the webpage or PDF you are actively viewing is collected. This data is sent to our backend for processing.
• User Settings: We use Chrome's built-in storage to save your application preferences, such as the visibility of the "Quick Access Button" and your remaining free query count. This data is stored locally in your browser or synced to your Google account and is not accessible to us.

2. How We Use Information

• To Generate Summaries and Answers: The collected website content is sent securely to the Google Gemini AI service via our secure Firebase Functions backend. This is the core purpose of the extension. The content is used solely to generate the summary or answer for your request and is not stored or logged by our service.
• To Improve User Experience: Your saved settings are used to personalize your experience with the extension.

3. Third-Party Services

• Google Gemini: We use Google's Gemini API as our AI provider to perform summarization and Q&A tasks.
• Google Forms (for Pre-registration): If you choose to pre-register for TLDR Scholar Pro on our options page, the email address you provide is submitted directly to a Google Form. We only use this list to notify you about the Pro version launch and discount.

4. Data Storage and Security

We do not store the content of the pages you summarize on our servers. All processing is done in-memory for the duration of the AI request. Your settings are handled by the secure chrome.storage API.

5. Data Transfer

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to outside parties. The only transfer of data is the necessary sending of page content to the Google Gemini API for processing your request.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page.
